CloudKid Presents Paper Idol - The Playground (Deluxe)

2022 was an explosive year for indie. alternative dance artist Paper Idol, real name Matan KG. His longest body of work to date, ‘The Playground‘ hit airwaves and store shelves this past autumn reminding anyone who needed an escape, that there are just as many nostalgic boys and girls among us. Though they’ve since turned into adults, and are just as equally missing the purity of childhood, Paper Idol offered music as the remedy. Fuelling new life into this body of work in 2023, Paper Idol returns with an extended version of the album to remind us that innocence is actually bliss and as listeners, we should be revelling in that.

He says, “The Deluxe Edition of the album has a bunch of demos and tracks that never made the final cut. “Last Song” is a stripped-down ballad I wrote on a summer day in Wisconsin, and felt like the perfect way to end the album. “Big Bad Bully” was this hard trap experiment that we produced during a few sessions for the album, and we thought it went too hard for an indie-pop record! Turns out it fit nicely on the album upon second release. My bandmate Adam (aka PRNDL) made the lead single, ‘Dark Side Baby,’ which is basically the heavier disco-house version of focus track ‘Bright Side Baby.‘ There’s also an incredible remix of ‘The Playground’ by Crypto that some of you have heard before, as well as the very first version of the title track, along with an Intro and an Interlude, to complete this body of work.”

»These songs didn't make the final cut the first time around...«

Paper Idol is the genre-bending pop project of LA-based artist and auteur Matan KG. The music weaves dance music and indie-pop into “something unique and utterly disarming” (Beats per Minute), with storytelling that blurs the line between reality and fantasy, optimism and delusion, the sentimental and the absurd. After graduating university with a Neuroscience degree, Matan left medical-school ambitions behind to pursue music in LA. In under three years, he has released a string of singles and 2 EPs, multiple collaborations with forward-thinking dance artists (Yung Bae, Wankelmut, NASAYA), and has been lauded by BBC Radio 1, Billboard, Consequence, Under the Radar, and Dancing Astronaut. Featuring former classmate Adam Rochelle (keys), Paper Idol has performed the Fonda Theater, The Teragram Ballroom, and an official showcase at South By Southwest. He has also shared stages with Sylvan Esso, Two Feet, Lewis Del Mar, and Washed Out across festivals in the US over the past year. With his debut album, The Playground, behind him, Paper Idol hopes to continue rallying a generation bombarded by reality and desperate for an escape. The Deluxe Edition out NOW!
