CloudKid Presents TEYA - Behind The Scenes
After reaping global success from acting as Eurovision 2023’s Austria entry, Austrian-Serbian singer, songwriter and artist TEYA, is ready to wreak havoc as she signs her first EP, post-“Who The Hell Is Edgar?” with CloudKid. The 1st track of the EP entitled ‘Behind The Scenes,’ is an edgy, upbeat, alt-pop track that shares TEYA’s feelings about her real behind the scenes, showcasing the opposite of what social media conveys a majority of the time.
TEYA continues, “I’m a big fan of the movie The Truman Show, so whenever I have a lazy day and can’t get myself to do chores and finish tasks I’ve been dreading, I pretend that I am Truman and people are watching my every move. It motivates me to get going. Because of this, I thought it could be an interesting concept for a song – something like a Truman-life hack. But I quickly realized there’s more meaning behind it. Truman didn’t know that people were watching him. And neither would I, if I were in his shoes. So people would actually get to see the real me on a bad day, not the act I was putting on. I realized that this ”putting my best sides forward for watching eyes” was the same thing I was doing on social media, posting when something cool or exciting is happening, and not when I procrastinate and eat a lot more ice-cream than I should be. In the true spirit of this EP, I decided I would rather be brutally honest and that’s how the song came out.”

Teodora Špirić, known professionally as TEYA, is an Austrian-Serbian singer-songwriter based in Berlin. At 24 years old, TEYA’s journey so far is testament to her remarkable talent and dedication to her craft. What started as a necessity to create blossomed into a passion — now, career — that has propelled her into the heart of the music industry. Formerly a professional tennis player, TEYA was, however, not a stranger to the stage, performing in musicals during her teen years. In 2020, TEYA decided to retire from tennis, instead shifting focus to writing songs and honing in on her artistry. Now a hobby turned profession, TEYA began competing on-stage as a songwriter, her first competition being the Beovizija 2020, Serbia’s national selection for the Eurovision, followed quickly by Starmania 21, an Austrian singing competition. Since then, TEYA’s musical endeavours have led her to songwriting camps across Europe — forging connections with artists and producers, such as Chiara Castelli, MYLE, FriendsFromCollege, Molly Irvine, FLAVIA, among others — as well as signing a publishing deal with Kayser & Boss, Sony Music Publishing, and Schneeblind Musikverlag, the latter marking a pivotal moment for her, as she left her hometown in Vienna for Berlin shortly thereafter. In September 2022, TEYA wrote the song that would become the entry for 2023’s Eurovision Song Contest, ‘Who The Hell Is Edgar?” of which she’d later perform alongside SALENA as the Austrian contestants for the competition. The song struck a chord with audiences, now having amassed over 30 million plays on various platforms, showcasing her growing impact in the industry. Fresh off the Eurovision battlefield in Liverpool, TEYA begins a new journey in Germany and with CloudKid. Set to release her first ever EP this summer as a solo artist, TEYA will continue writing songs for other up and coming artists in the scene, while furthering her artist career. With powerhouse vocals, signature red highlights and an all-black wardrobe, her momentum shows no sign of slowing nor dimming down any time soon. The first single off of her Grandma On The Dancefloor EP, entitled ‘Behind The Scenes,’ is out now across DSPs.
